New Pathway Counseling - Bayonne
995 Broadway, Bayonne, NJ 07002
OPEN 8AM - 9PM | Monday - Friday
Our outpatient psychiatric services and comprehensive programs at New Pathway Counseling are founded on a highly customized, state-of-the-art approach to the treatment of substance use disorders (SUDs). We understand that every individual’s experience with addiction is unique, and our team of behavioral health experts aims to ensure that each of our clients is provided with a customized, all-encompassing treatment plan specially tailored to meet their recovery needs and aspirations.
Our Unique Approach
Our treatment facilities are designed to promote a calm, supportive setting that fosters healing, positive change, and comradery among those struggling with similar issues. We provide flexible outpatient (OPs) and intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) for adults, as well as day programs for teens aged 12-17. These programs have been developed to provide clients with holistic treatment while allowing them the freedom to attend to their day-to-day obligations and re-engage with their lives more healthily.
Several evidence-based techniques, including individual therapy, group therapy, and SOARFIT—a program that incorporates exercise and fitness as important aspects of treatment—are included in our innovative approach to addiction. We treat substance use disorders as chronic, relapsing health conditions, despite the fact that many programs treat them as a moral dilemma that can be resolved through sheer effort alone. Consequently, we have discovered that a combination of psychiatric services, traditional therapies, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and various forms of continuous support and aftercare are the most effective approaches to addressing addiction and its harmful repercussions.
Overall, our mission is to ensure each client has access to the support, tools, and resources necessary to maintain sobriety and well-being indefinitely. As we strive to empower individuals with the skills and coping mechanisms they need to face and overcome obstacles, we hope to motivate and equip them for life as they transition back to the real world.

Our Program
Outpatient Program (OP)
Our OPs were developed to allow individuals to participate in treatment while they live at home and attend to many of their normal daily responsibilities. These programs may be suitable for those who are stepping down from an intensive outpatient or inpatient program, or who simply do not require a higher level of care that this type of program provides.
Components of Our Outpatient Programs
- Complete assessment and treatment plan development based on findings.
- Individual, one-on-one sessions with a psychiatrist or other behavioral health expert.
- Group therapy, which allows peers to bond during recovery.
- Education on coping skills, stress management, and relapse prevention.
- MAT for opioid (OUD) and alcohol use disorders (AUDs).
- The SOARFIT model, to promote fitness and exercise in recovery.
- Developing an aftercare plan for maintaining sobriety after formal treatment is completed.
Adult Program
The SOARFIT model was developed to help overcome inner conflict while promoting harmony and recovery. This is a scientific method that seeks to unify the body, energy, mind, and spirit with self-awareness. Among the main goals include helping individuals minimize external distractions, foster communication with oneself, and discover that achieving and maintaining abstinence is both desirable and possible.
Functional Integrative Therapy Focus
- Help the individual express their feelings and communicate more effectively with others.
- Help the client to create new neurological pathways in the brain and promote dopamine release.
- Encourage individuals to engage in an enjoyable social environment and activities not impacted by substance use.
- Motivate clients to foster positive, internal change.
Functional Integrative Therapy Goals
- The development of effective, healthy problem-solving skills.
- Increased ability to cope with stress without substance use.
- The development of relaxation skills and enhanced focus.
- Improved tolerance to stress.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
IOP programs provide a higher level of care than standard OPs, but still offer a significant degree of flexibility. Compared to OPs, IOP typically involves adhering to a more structured schedule and requires a greater time commitment. IOPs include most of the same therapies and services as traditional OPs, including individual and group therapy, SOARFIT, and PEMF.
Adolescent Day Program
At New Pathway Counseling, our adolescent day program was developed to treat individuals ages 12 to 17 who struggle with emotional challenges and substance misuse and have found traditional school programs ineffectual. This program is held Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Of note, we are an abstinence-based recovery program and require screening for illicit substances as a part of treatment.
During the initial evaluation, the adolescent’s information, history of substance use, and other challenges will be assessed by a board certified adolescent psychiatrist who will also diagnose any existing SUDs or mental health conditions. Our interdisciplinary team, the client, their family, and the school will collaborate on developing a personalized treatment plan.
The teen’s daily schedule will include evidence-based therapies, group and individual counseling, and exercise and fitness, with a strong focus on family therapy and support.
A state-certified instructor facilitates our educational component, and the entire team will be in weekly contact with the adolescent’s school district.
The Soarfit model
Transcranial PEMF is a therapy approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of drug-resistant depression. Research has revealed that when PEMF therapy is administered regularly, it alters the body’s stress responses by acting on certain bodily components, including the endocrine and nervous systems. In addition, PEMFs can help reduce the body’s reaction to prolonged periods of stress.
In the SoarFit model, we aim to help clients:
- Develop a mindset that helps maximize brain and body function.
- Increase the potential for emotional and physical healing.
- Reduce relapse.
- Develop skills that can be used daily.
- Mindfulness skills = self-awareness
- Dialectal skills = understanding reality
- Emotional skills = developing good habits
- Stress management skills = caring for oneself
- Interpersonal skills = giving and asking for help
- Behavioral Skills = managing outcomes
- Minimize external distractions and increase focus.
- Strengthen the relationship between the mind, body, and spirit.
Medically-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Services
MAT is a clinically proven adjunct to traditional therapies intended to help those struggling with substance use. Because addiction negatively affects brain chemistry and is associated with both tolerance and dependence, MAT was developed by scientists to help individuals break free from these conditions and allow them to focus on healing and recovery. MAT helps promote sobriety by integrating the use of medication with traditional therapies and mitigating withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
One of the primary uses of MAT is to address withdrawal symptoms that may arise during detox for prescription opioid medications and illicit drugs such as heroin and fentanyl. There are three FDA-approved medications commonly used to treat opioid use disorder, which include buprenorphine/Suboxone, naltrexone, and methadone.
Alcohol use disorders (AUDs) can also be effectively addressed through the use of MAT, which includes the medications naltrexone, disulfiram, and acamprosate. Alcohol withdrawal effects can be severe and even fatal, resulting in complications such as heart problems and seizures. For this reason, individuals are urged to undergo detox under specialized clinical supervision.
The SOARFIT Model
At New Pathway Counseling, our SOARFIT behavioral health professionals work closely with adults and their families to heal their minds, bodies, and spirits in a positive and rewarding environment. The SOARFIT program is a unique approach to recovery that promotes sobriety, health, and fitness. The goal is to help participants discover that achieving long-lasting sobriety is desirable and possible. Promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness is vital for relapse prevention. For example, regular workout routines help individuals alleviate stress, cope with cravings, and strengthen their immunity. The SOARFIT Program Structure and Components
The SOARFIT program is based on a continuum of care model in which individuals are encouraged to engage in services at the degree of intensity they need to achieve and sustain sobriety. During the program, clients participate in our IOP and then transition to a less intensive level of care, such as OP and individual, family, and group therapy sessions. They are also encouraged to remain actively engaged in these services throughout their relapse prevention program. The SOARFIT program is based on a continuum of care Based on the findings of the individual’s initial assessment, the SOARFIT addiction treatment professional and the client develop a personalized plan containing some or all of the following services:Weekly Individual Therapy Sessions
Our programs include a technique known as transcranial pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF), a form of treatment that uses electromagnetic fields to improve health and overall wellness. The FDA approved PEMF in 2011 to address severe, treatment-resistant depression. Research has shown that when PEMF therapy is used regularly, it mitigates the individual’s stress responses by acting on various components of the body, such as the endocrine and nervous systems, cells, and organs. PEMF can also effectively lower the body’s response to extended periods of stress.Group Therapy Sessions
In group therapy sessions, clients process their experiences and challenges during recovery. Here, a trained facilitator helps participants work to reinforce healthy thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that promote long-lasting recovery. They also assist them in learning the effective coping mechanisms and techniques needed to confront the obstacles that can increase the risk of relapse.Spiritual Guidance
Some individuals begin treatment without having a connection to a higher power. For this reason, our behavioral health specialists work with clients to help them understand the role of spirituality and the impact it can have on substance use and the recovery process. Underlying this idea is that by accepting the possibility of a higher power, clients can gain a better understanding of who they are and their life’s purpose.Aftercare Planning
No addiction recovery program is complete without extensive aftercare planning. The transition back to fully independent living can be challenging, and it is absolutely crucial that a solid plan is in place before inpatient treatment comes to an end. We make sure that every client is prepared with a clear-cut set of instructions and a lengthy list of recovery resources before he or she graduates from our program. We begin instilling many skills that prepare our clients for success in long-term recovery while they are still in treatment, however. In group and individual therapy sessions we work to instill like skills, healthy coping mechanisms, relapse prevention skills and a thorough introduction to the 12 step model of addiction recovery. 12 step programs like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous remain crucial components of nearly every aftercare plan. Our Admissions Process
