About Molina Healthcare
Molina’s mission is to provide healthcare services to individuals and families receiving government assistance through partnerships with Medicare or Medicaid. Molina Medicaid plans are available to anyone who qualifies for government-sponsored health insurance programs, while Medicare plans offer benefits and programs for those who are eligible for Medicare, or both Medicare and Medicaid. In some states where Medicaid plans are offered, healthcare marketplace plans are also available to help those transitioning from Medicaid to the Marketplace remain with their current primary care provider.
Molina Healthcare was established in 1980 via the vision of emergency care physician C David Molina, MD. Launched from a single office in California, the insurance provider now serves close to 5 million members across fifteen states, nationwide. Molina Behavioral Health covers both inpatient and outpatient substance use disorder services, including crisis management services. Members may self-refer to any licensed provider for an initial evaluation, or they may see their primary care physician for a referral.
Molina Behavioral Health plans typically cover initial evaluations for substance use disorder treatment, including drug or alcohol overuse. In addition, plans typically include detoxification or withdrawal management, inpatient or outpatient services, opioid use disorder medications and treatments, and other recovery support.
Your Molina Healthcare plan may be listed under a different name, such as Florida’s Beacon Health Options.
What Molina Healthcare Covers
Whether your Molina Insurance plan is partnered with Medicaid, Medicare, or both, or if you have a Molina Marketplace plan, you may still have a deductible and copayment. The out of pocket dollar amounts will vary from plan to plan. Molina Marketplace plans span the bronze, silver and gold categories. Typically, bronze level plans will have the highest deductibles and co-payment amounts, yet the lowest monthly fees, while gold level plans will have the lowest deductibles and co-payments, yet the highest monthly fees.
Your plan may require you to see a doctor that is “in-network” for your benefits to be maximized. Your Molina plan may also require a referral from a primary care physician to see a specialist, although this requirement is waived for most behavioral health services including drug and alcohol addiction treatment services. You may change your behavioral healthcare provider at any time, and you may change your behavioral health case manager at any time.
